LUDHIANA: Residents would not have to shell out extra money to reach
Delhi airport as Pepsu Road Transport Corporation has sent a proposal to state transport department to start super AC buses for Delhi airport. The vehicle that would ply in the afternoon so that commuters could board the international flights would be equipped with facilities like water and newspaper.
PRTC general manager Surinder Singh said, “It would be super AC bus with water and newspaper facilities.
It will leave in the evening so as to reach Delhi by 9 pm and start on its return journey after midnight. It will reach here by early morning so that travellers can plan their days accordingly.”
“Acting on numerous requests from residents, we have send a proposal for approval. Many people commute between the city, which is an industrial hub, and the national capital daily. In the absence of state transport bus, they either pay extra to private buses or travel by taxi,” he said.
Meanwhile, stating their take on the issue, general manager of Punjab Roadways RS Grewal said, “We have initiated the Delhi airport service from Jalandhar on Tuesday. If this venture proves to be a success, we will launch it for city residents.” Accepting that “the demand exists”, he said, “But we are waiting for the results of the bus that we have started from Jalandhar.
Residents are happy with the initiative and are waiting for service to be inaugurated. A businessman Amit Garg, said,
“Private buses charge Rs 1,000 for a trip to Delhi airport but state transport fare is far less. So I think authorities should do something.”
According to information, the fare is Rs 165 for general bus to Delhi, Rs 185 in ordinary AC buses and Rs 465 for super air conditioned integral coaches.
